Get Trained for Tourism – Launch of Choice Programme

The Industry Human Resource Development Unit (IHRD) within the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) is launching the CHOICE programme for the ninth consecutive year. Choice is designed to give information and expose secondary students to careers in the tourism industry, showing that the tourism industry can be a source of gainful and rewarding employment. The overview presented helps students formulate a knowledgeable opinion about the industry. This year a more visually attractive brochure was designed with the main message being PEOPLE.

The CHOICE programme which ran in the last scholastic year attracted the participation of 33 schools. To date around 25,000 students have participated in the programme. Students are encouraged to participate in the Quiz Competition with the chance of winning a week stay at a Hilton Hotel in Istanbul and thus having the opportunity to get to know more about the careers available within the hotel industry.

The CHOICE programme is held in collaboration with the Institute of Tourism Studies (ITS). Students who visit the ITS are shown some skills needed for the sector from other students who are studying at ITS.

The Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association (MHRA) have supported the CHOICE programme by encouraging their members to offer speakers for school talks and prizes for the competition.
