Dr De Marco stated that, “As one may see the location selected to host this office is strategically placed at the entrance of the city and a prominent landmark. The building known as the ‘Torre dello Stendardo’ dates back to the beginning of the 16th century, when it was built to replace a smaller tower. The tower was used to notify the rest of the island that the enemy had landed. Today it will be used to welcome the foreigners who visit our shores.”

The Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism thanked the Mdina Local Council for their assistance and support in making the opening and running of this tourism office possible. He concluded by saying that the aim of the MTA is to have a chain of offices around Malta and Gozo, so that tourists visiting our Islands have access to information as widely as possible in the localities they visit. This is another necessary aspect of Malta’s tourism product.
