Malta at the Borsa Mediterranea del Turismo Archeologico

The Malta Tourism Authority, through its History & Culture Segment, recently participated in the 12th edition of the ‘Borsa Mediterranea del Turismo Archeologico’ (BMTA), which was held in Paestum, Salerno (IT), between the 19th and 22nd November 2009. This fair is a niche market event which aims to attract visitors to Malta specifically for the islands’ archeological attractions. The MTA also actively participated in a workshop which included the participation of around 80 buyers and tour operators from all over the world.

Prof. Vittorio Sgarbi, one of Italy’s foremost art critics, visited Malta’s stand. Prof Anthony Bonanno, Professor of Archaeology at the University of Malta, was also one of the main speakers during the conference. During the fair, wherein the MTA was represented by Dominic Micallef, Segment Head History & Culture, special reference was made to the roofing projects at the Ħaġar Qim and Mnajdra pre-historic temples, carried out by Heritage Malta.
