  • Isle of MTV Malta 2009 - acts announced

    In a press conference held at the MTA head office in Valletta, on 20th April, the line up for the 3rd edition of the Isle of MTV mega concert was announced by Parliamentary Secretary Dr Mario De Marco. This year’s event will take place on the 8th of July and like last year will be the fitting closure to the Malta Music Week.

    3,343 air raids, 2,357 hours under attack, 15,000 tonnes of bombs, over 9,000 casualties in all, 10,761 buildings destroyed and only parts of 17 convoys to relieve the misery.

  • Malta appoints Nina Ruge as VIP ambassador for Germany

    The Malta Tourism Authority, through the MTA’s German office based in Frankfurt, has appointed the popular German TV host and author Ms. Nina Ruge as one of Malta’s VIP ambassadors, especially for the German  market.

  • MP's football team presented with Sheffield United FC shirts

    The Maltese members of parliament football team was today presented with Sheffield United kits sporting the Maltese Cross and the visitmalta.com logo, kindly donated by Sheffield United FC (SUFC).  The presentation was made by SUFC sponsors, the Malta Tourism Authority on behalf of the club, represented by the Chairman Mr Sam Mifsud and CEO Mr Josef Formosa Gauci. Present on behalf of the MP's football team were members of parliament Carmelo Abela, David Agius and Gino Cauchi.

  • MTA extend Sheffield United sponsorship

    In a press conference held today (27 March) at the Malta Tourism Authority’s head office, Mr Sam Mifsud, MTA Chairman, Mr Josef Formosa Gauci, CEO, MTA, Mr Andy Daykin, Commercial Director at Sheffield United FC (SUFC), Mr Jason Rockett, SUFC CEO and Mr Mike Farnan SUFC Executive Director, addressed the numerous members of the press in attendance. The conference was in connection with the Sheffield United FC (SUFC) sponsorship deal, which was discussed at length through various audiovisual presentations.

  • Malta International Fireworks Festival 2009 launched

    The Parliamentary Secretariat for Tourism and the Malta Tourism Authority will be organising the 8th edition of the Malta International Fireworks Festival. The Grand Harbour will once again provide the perfect setting for this event, which will take place on Thursday, April 30 and Friday, May 1.

  • 1,000 German travel agents to visit Malta on familiarisation trip

    Germany's foremost tour operator FTI (Frosch Touristik International) is organising a 'Mega Fam Trip', or familiarisation visit to Malta for 1,000 German travel agents from all over the country.

  • SAS inaugurates Stokholm - Malta route

    In a news conference held at the Malta International Airport, the Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism, the Hon. Dr Mario de Marco; Malta Tourism Authority CEO, Mr Josef Formosa Gauci, and Malta International Airport CEO, Mr Julian Jaeger; welcomed the inaugural flight by SAS from Stockholm, which had Swedish Pop Idol winner Kevin Borg and SAS Vice President Communications, Mr Andris Zvejnieks on board.

  • MTA receives prestigious Expedia award

    During a short presentation at the ITB (Internationale Tourismus Boerse) fair in Berlin earlier this month, the Malta Tourism Authority was presented with the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award by the world’s foremost online travel booking company, Expedia. The MVP Award was given to the MTA in recognition of the Authority’s leadership in online destination marketing.

  • 15 winners at the Malta Tourism Authority STAR Awards

    During the prestigious STAR award ceremony, organised annually by the Malta Tourism Authority, 14 people and one visitor attraction received a STAR Award (Special Thanks And Recognition). The ceremony took place on the 26th February at the Grand Hotel Excelsior.

  • EYES ON MALTA – Online Video Competition

    ‘Eyes on Malta’ is the title of a new international video competition that was officially launched by the Malta Tourism Authority on the 13th of March, during the ITB travel fair in Berlin.

  • Malta Event at Berlin ITB

    A press and trade event was held on the 12th of March at the Malta stand within the Berlin ITB (Internationale Tourismus Boerse), considered to be the world's largest travel trade fair. The Malta event, attended by over 70 members of the international trade and consumer press as well as tour operators and trade representatives, was created purposely to reflect the MTA's strategy of promoting Maltese lifestyle in Germany.

  • Malta wins four silvers at UK's top business travel industry awards

    For the second year running Malta has received the nod from the UK's conference and incentive travel industry winning four silvers at the trade's prestigious Eventia International Awards.

  • Moratorium on capital repayments for hotel owners and operators

    The Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism in the Office of the Prime Minister, the Hon. Dr Mario de Marco today announced that the major Banks in Malta, namely APS Bank, Banif, Bank of Valletta, HSBC and Lombard Bank are supportive of a government initiative to grant a capital repayment moratorium for up to one year on a case by case basis for hotel owners and operators.

  • Malta voted top dive destination in Europe in the ‘2008 Diver Awards’

    The 35,000 readers of Diver Magazine have recognised Malta’s burgeoning reputation as one of the premier dive destinations in the world by voting it above all other European countries in their annual ‘Diver Awards’. As revealed in Diver Magazine’s March issue, internationally Malta was topped only by Egypt and the Maldives.

  • Sheffield United players brighten up Mater Dei children's wards

    On Tuesday 24 March, Management and support staff of Sheffield United FC (SUFC) as well as renowned players Ugo Ehiogu and Billy Sharpe, paid a courtesy visit to the children recovering in the wards at Mater Dei.
