Malta Tourism Authority Launches €4 million EU Funded Training and Research Programme

Following successful submission of project proposal ESF 2.11 “Developing Leaders for Change and Innovation in Tourism”, the Malta Tourism Authority will be launching a €4 million EU-funded training and research project commencing in 2009. “This is designed to train and certify over 1200 managers and supervisors in the tourism sector by introducing and conducting a Continuous Professional Development programme. The programmes are aimed to be practical and result focused, including individual mentoring sessions as well as the possibility of an international field visit to enhance professional and self development” Outlined Joe Tanti, Head of Industry HR Development.

The training programme offers participants training module with a strong focus on leadership Skills, Strategic Planning, People Management, Sustainable Tourism & Corporate Social Responsibility, Customer Relations, e–Business, Entrepreneurial Skills for Business Growth and other focus on tourism areas. Modules will be delivered through a practical approach and backed up with case studies. The Programme will be held both in Malta and Gozo.

Two studies will also be conducted to increase the knowledge base in human resources in order to forecast future employment opportunities and future training needs in various sectors of the tourism industry. The study will extend beyond the traditional accommodation and catering sectors, and will include the English language, diving, creative industries, local produce and other tourism attractions.
