Parliamentary Secretary for tourism meets coach – assault students

On the 18th July, Dr Mario De Marco, Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism, met the 90 students who were first-hand witnesses to an act of aggression against their coach driver during last month's transport strike.

The students, who attend the STS language school, 80 from Italy and 10 from Romania, were on board two coaches entering St Dorothy’s School to start their day, when a mini bus blocked their entrance to the school grounds. Some of those who were on strike, assaulted the driver of the first coach and boarded it to the shock and dismay of the people present.

Dr Mario De Marco apologised for the unfortunate incident and for the inconvenience caused. The rest of his address to the students was upbeat, wherein he explained that the strike was unfortunate, but these are things that happen. He wished them an enjoyable stay and guaranteed that they were sure to experience the excellent Maltese hospitality during the remaining days of their stay and that they should continue enjoying their visit and Malta’s beaches, entertainment and culture.

At the end Dr De Marco, Mr Sam Mifsud, Chairman, Malta Tourism Authority and Mr Josef Formosa Gauci, CEO, MTA, presented the students with complimentary bags containing various gifts and mementoes to serve as better reminders of their stay in Malta.
