      This year’s edition of Isle of MTV, once again had the massive crowd hyped up and dancing to the beat of a line-up, which was more varied in musical styles than the 1st edition last year.  Even though it is being said that Enrique Iglesias’s second appearance on stage stole the hearts of the Maltese and the show itself, the other acts certainly did not disappoint.

      Despite having to compete with the Euro 2008, for attention, the events of the Malta Music Week were a resounding success and certainly set the party mood for the Isle of MTV Malta Special, which brought this week of partying to a close.

  • Sustained growth in inbound tourism

    According to the ongoing frontier survey, tourist departures in May are estimated at 131,354, implying an increase of 20.5 per cent over the same month in 2007. The increase reflects primarily a rise in the British, German and Spanish markets, while tourists coming from the USA, Russia and Switzerland registered decreases.

  • Iglesias an Honorary Citizen of Valletta

    The citezenship was bestowed by the Mayor of Valletta, Dr Paul Borg Olivier.  Enrique openly professes to be besotted with Malta and the Maltese and thinks the Maltese Islands are ‘absolutely amazing’. The Valletta Mayor, Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism Dr Mario De Marco and Permanent Secretary Mr Peter Portelli chatted briefly with Enrique, who also found the time to sign autographs and pose for photos with fans who turned up at the hotel in the hope of meeting him.

  • Enforcement action taken in Sliema

    In a joint action carried out this morning by the Malta Tourism Authority and representatives of the Lands' department and the Police force, a number of enforcement measures were carried out upon various catering establishments in the Sliema Ferries' area, wherein rules and regulations relative to public hindrances, obstacles and pedestrian access were not being observed.  Many complaints have been received from a large number of individuals as well as from the Sliema Local Council with regards to rampant abuses in this regard.

  • 1,700 persons trained over two years

    “Our islands are promoted away from our shores by three key selling points - Heritage, Hospitality and Diversity and it is essential that we give these students a flavour of all three as part of their English Language Learning Experience. This will give added value to these visitors encouraging them to return perhaps with a different purpose or promote our islands to family and friends. For the future success and sustainability of tourism in Malta, we count on the professional service rendered by each Entrepreneur, Director, English Language teacher, Group Leader and employee working in tourism to improve the product offer and exceed our guests’ expectations.” This was stated by Hon Dr Mario de Marco, Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism, during a certificate presentation to 206 group leaders in the English as a Foreign Language (EFL) sector held The Phoenicia Hotel.

  • Bugibba Perched Beach – Awarded Blue Flag Certification

    The Bugibba Perched Beach was selected as a good candidate for the Blue Flag management scheme. This means that the Beach must comply with a number of criteria designed to ensure that those beaches and marinas awarded the label are working towards sustainable development.

  • St. George's bay achieves blue flag Certificate

    St. George’s Bay is located along Malta’s northeast coast within the tourist area of St. Julian’s. Today the bay is popular with tourists and locals alike, but it hasn’t always been this way. Indeed, the bay looks very different today than it did just four years ago. In 2000, the greatly eroded sandy beach provided very little space for bathers. Small pockets of sand were all that was available. There was no management of the beach and space was further restricted by vehicles driving and parking on the beach. So what’s changed?

    In a press conference held on the 30th May at the Portomaso Casino, the MTA in collaboration with the Powerboat P1 organising committee launched the 5th edition of the Malta Grand Prix of the Sea.

  • 2nd edition of TV Moda Malta International Fashion Show launched

    In a press conference held on the 26th May, at the Malta Tourism Authority offices in Valletta, Renaissance Productions Limited (RPL) in collaboration with the MTA launched the 2nd edition of the TV Moda Malta International Fashion Show which will be held on the 5th July in Gozo. This edition of the TV Moda fashion show is being held under the patronage of the Ministry for Gozo and the Parliamentary Secretariat for Tourism.

  • Miss Bikini World 2008

    These contests have attracted over 40 participants from around the world, from places as far flung as Venezuela and Taiwan to the closer to home Sicily and England. This year's editions took place on the 24th June at the Dragonara Casino, with a full programme between the 19th and 25th June, where the contestants experienced of Malta's Hospitality, Heritage and Diversity, taking with them a worthy testimony of Malta as a unique holiday destination.

  • Air One adds flights from Rome and Milan to Malta

    As of June 1, Air One started operating new routes, from Italy. With daily flights from Milan and a more frequent schedule from Rome, Air One has opened its extensive routes inside Italy to the Maltese market.
