SUMMER BASH 2008
Summer Bash 2008 is an initiative partaken by Lidea Events Ltd comprising three staged performances running throughout the summer months in aid of Puttinu Cares Foundation – Children’s Cancer Support Group.
These events will form part of a health awareness campaign targeting the prevention and treatment of cancer in our community. Forming part of a National Project, Summer Bash 2008 hopes to raise enough funds to finance the acquisition of three apartments in the UK which are essential in order to host families of affected children during their periods of treatment overseas.
This ever growing disease affects nearly 1 in every 3 people and nearly 12 children a year in Malta. Abiding by the phrase ‘Prevention is better than Cure’ this program aims to increase consciousness with regards to the impact of cancer in Malta as well as allowing people to seek alternatives to improve their health and lifestyle in order to avoid this common condition and undergo unnecessary treatments; hence Lidea’s mission statement ‘Making a Difference’.
All three events are expected to gather great turnouts as these will be 100% subsidised and will incur no ticket purchase costs and aim to gather a quota of 7,000 to 15,000 people. The first concert being held in Mellieha on the July 18 entitled ‘Monsters of Rock Tribute Festival’ starring three officially recognised tribute bands for the first time on the Maltese Islands! These include AC/DC, Bon Jovi as well as Ozzy Osbourne. All three bands will perform for 60 minutes of uninterrupted music with additional time for encores, whilst local acts will support the bands and the show.
The second concert on the programme is aimed at bringing back that 60’s groove to Floriana on August 16. ‘60’s Special’ will incorporate five original rock and roll icons, namely Jerry and the Pacemakers, Brian Poole (Tremeloes), Dave Berry, Swinging Blue Jeans and The Searchers. This performance will be supported by a Swedish Band ‘The Rock Orchestra’. The non-stop music gig will be around four hours long and again will be free for the public.
Last but not least, Saturday September 6 will witness genuine Italian stars being brought back to the stage especially for this event. ‘Ciao Italia’, the closing concert for Summer Bash 2008 will feature three great acts; that is to say Jimmy Fontana, Tony De Lara and Scialpi. The artists will be accompanied by an italo-brazilian band conducted by world renowned Maestro Sinatra providing its audience with a guaranteed impressive experience!
Funds will be collected as donations by the general public via telephone lines and on site donations, as well as a special Summer Bash 2008 Lottery. The Campaign designed by the Malta Pharmaceutical Students Association (MPSA) and established health professionals will be launched prior to the events, and will be featured on location during the concerts. The need of premises in the United Kingdom is fundamental for the families of children who incur treatment for long periods abroad; this campaign aims at easing both the financial and emotional state of these families.
