ENRIQUE MADE HONORARY CITIZEN OF VALLETTA

The Honorary Citezenship of the city of Valletta has grown to two illustrious personalities. On the 25th of June, Enrique Iglesias joined Maestro Riccardo Muti at a brief ceremony held at the Grand Hotel Exelcior, just before his exit to perform at the Isle of MTV.

The citezenship was bestowed by the Mayor of Valletta, Dr Paul Borg Olivier. Enrique openly professes to be besotted with Malta and the Maltese and thinks the Maltese Islands are ‘absolutely amazing’. The Valletta Mayor, Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism Dr Mario De Marco and Permanent Secretary Mr Peter Portelli chatted briefly with Enrique, who also found the time to sign autographs and pose for photos with fans who turned up at the hotel in the hope of meeting him.

Dr Borg Olivier, stated that the Valletta Council that it would be an honour to make Enrique an honorary citizen as so in love with Malta, but more importantly because he is a symbol of unity, bringing people together from all over the world through the common language of music. Enrique expressed his gratitude for the honour of receiving the honorary Valletta citizenship.

Known by all men, the importance of music as one of the most effective tools of cultural understanding cutting across cultural borders, creating a better awareness of people, fostering peace, unity and understanding;

Grateful of the enduring participation to enhance the understanding of peace through the language of music, as an effective means to unite people, particularly the new generation of the World;

Conscious of his commitment to bring music to the widest form of youthful participation, bringing people closer together through the language of music, fostering unity and human prosperity through cultural understanding.

Therefore, today the 25 June 2008, the Valletta local Council hereby bestows upon
ENRIQUE IGLESIAS

The title of
HONORARY CITIZEN OF VALLETTA

For his contribution to foster unity of peoples, particularly the new generation of the World,
through the language of music as a common heritage of mankind.
