Malta heats up to the beats of MTV

The Malta Tourism authority has received information from very reliable sources that one of the front liners for Isle of MTV, Malta 2008 is going to be OneRepublic. Though MTV have not confirmed this entirely, it looks like this popular group will be one of the A listers gracing the stage on the 25th June.

Summer is just around the corner and things are heating up in Malta, not just in the temperature zones but also on the events front. Last year was one of the most happening years ever on the music and events scene and this year is looking to be no less alive than 2007.

Last year’s major event, was undoubtedly the Isle of MTV, Malta, held on the 21st July. Having attracted a crowd of around 40,000 people, the Isle of MTV, Malta, has not only been hailed as the biggest music event ever held in Malta, but also as the largest party crowd ever attracted by an Isle of MTV concert. The concert remains memorable not only for the huge, vibrant and enthusiastic crowd who attended but also for the top quality, star-studded line-up of both international and local stars.

The cream of the crop from the international charts graced the spectacular stage. Enrique Iglesias, Maroon 5 and Akon where joined by our own Ira Losco and Winter Moods to put on an event which left a lasting impression on all, with the international stars gushing about their warm welcome and the amazing response from the crowd – Maltese hospitality at it’s best! The Isle of MTV, Malta music event was broadcast to millions of viewers on all 18 MTV Europe networks, ensuring that Malta becomes known as a vibrant, fun and happening place to be.

The resounding success obtained in 2007 led to the signing of a 3-year agreement announced on the 29th February 2008, that the Isle of MTV, Malta would be back in effect turning Malta into the ‘Isle of MTV’, definitely until 2010. The Isle of MTV, Malta music event will not only be aired on the MTV Europe networks but will also go trans-continental too thus reaching an estimated viewership of around 47 million.

This year’s main event, which is expected to be at least as good as, but possibly even better than last year’s, will be taking place on the 25th June, at the Granaries in Floriana. Although the date has been announced, there is still widespread speculation about who shall be headlining. Rumour has it that the number of ‘A’ list stars wishing to participate in the 2008 Isle of MTV, Malta, keeps growing. However, the ultimate choice remains a close-guarded secret, until going to print.

The Isle of MTV, Malta event will be bringing to a close the Malta Music Week organised by G7 and assisted by the Malta Tourism Authority. Kicking off with a party on Friday 20th June at Gianpula, Rabat, featuring top DJs Filo & Peri, who will also be at La Grotta in Gozo on the 21st June; a beach party is earmarked at Gnejna on the 22nd June with other parties on the 23rd and 24th in Bugibba and St Julian’s respectively.
