Malta: A Smart Choice

Between the 27 and 29 of November 2007, the Malta Tourism Authority together with numerous local service providers, took part in a specialised annual fair in Barcelona, Spain.  The EIBTM is a fair targeted at promoting coutries as venues for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Events or MICE.  This year was the largest presence Malta has ever had in this fair.  The outcomes from such fairs are that Malta is chosen repeatedly as a favoured country for MICE by top brands and to host prestigious events.

What do Cadbury, Pfizer, Sony and the Commonwealth Heads of Government (including Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth) have in common?

They’re smart – particularly about choosing their meetings’ destination… They’ve opted for Malta!

Malta has just been listed among the 2008 ‘Smart21 Communities’ by the Intelligent Community Forum.  While Malta is the smallest EU member, with a population of some 400,000, the Islands support an ICT industry of 200 companies and 6,000 workers.  Furthermore the Forum notes that Malta has taken a very pro-active approach to producing knowledge workers and an innovative outlook.  The Forum also notes that Malta “offers free education to its citizens and community technology learning centres in cooperation with Microsoft and other tech companies.”

Malta has exciting options for conference and incentive groups. It not only offers cutting-edge technology and communications but also is in a position to provide an environment, which makes the most of the time available for entertaining delegates.  The local service providers offer the expertise required by MICE travellers. The five and four-star hotels in Malta include internationally renowned chains as well as boutique properties and Local Destination Management Companies come up with fresh and exciting ideas.  In addition to all this Malta has an abundance of history, heritage and culture, which together with a strong tradition of hospitality and a temperate Mediterranean climate make our Islands attractive to the MICE traveller from all aspects;.

Professional service or the facility to unwind after a hard day’s work are all catered for on by our Islands putting us on the same footing as other destinations
