Ryan Air Routes Continue to Increase - Venice Taken Up

Ryan Air the world’s largest low cost airline now covers 8 routes to and from Malta. The first were London Luton, Pisa and Dublin. As of October 2007 Ryan Air will be flying to Bremen (from 27), Valencia (from 30), Barcelona (from 30) and Stockholm (from 31) and the latest addition to the cache is Venice which will start operating from December 13.

The introduction of low cost airlines has attributed to an increase in tourist numbers over the past months thus making 2007 the most successful year in the past six. It has also shifted the tourism market from tour operators to more individual bookings. The latter kind of tourist tends to stay for a shorter while, but uses more services such as car rental and locally organised tours.

The average tourist using low cost travel to Malta has an overall longer stay on average than those who travel to the other European destinations. The number of incoming tourists due to these new routes is expected to increase dramatically with Venice expected to draw over around 300,000 in the next year.
