This year's theme was: Tourism opens its doors for women

World Tourism Day

The Malta Tourism Authority together with local businesses and associations celebrated World Tourism Day through various initiatives, focusing on this year's theme: 'Tourism Opens Doors for Women'. Established by the World Tourism Organisation in 1980, World Tourism Day is promoted by the 150 member states world wide.

As part of the celebrations, the MTA presented a flower welcome to tourists arriving at Malta International Airport between 12.00 hrs and 16.00 hrs. Whilst passengers landing at the Cruise Liner Terminal in Valletta were greeted by a local festa band. Tourists visiting any of the Tourist Information Offices today were presented with a memento of the day.

The MTA has invited all tourism related associations to urge their members to participate including a welcome drink to arriving guests at hotels and other establishments, the MTA has also arranged for musicians to entertain guests at hotel lobbies.

The St. Paul's Bay Joint Tourism Committee and the MTA organised a pop-rock concert at Bugibba Bay Square with performances of The Music Makers presented by Batista Leisure Group as well as the rock band Red Mock Chili Peppers.
