A Bumper Year for Tourism
On August 17th the Minister for Tourism and Culture, the Hon Mr Francis Zammit Dimech visited a number of hotels in Malta and Gozo to thank the staff and personally acknowledge the hard work the hotels have put into making the first six months of this year the most successful for tourism in the past six years.More at: pr41.
New Dive Attraction for Malta
On the 14th of August the Patrol boat P29 Kondor – 1 was scuttled at Cirkewwa; following the issue of the MEPA permits through the efforts of the Malta Marine Foundation supported by the MTA who provided the technical and financial support required.More at: pr40.

A Concert to Remember, a Concert with a Difference

175 senior employees in the tourism sector attend service culture training
Over 175 senior employees in the tourism sector have recently completed the Service Culture training programme organised by the Malta Tourism Authority as part of the Tourism and Support Services Training Programme. This was announced by the Minister for Tourism and Culture, Dr Francis Zammit Dimech during a presentation of certificates to tourism senior employees who participated in this training programme. The presentation of the certificates was held at some of the participants work environment which included Heritage Malta, McDonalds, NSTS Aqua Centre and Coastline Hotel.More at: pr39.

Nikon – Malta Co branding – 2.5 million Euros of free advertising
In May, Malta entered into a co branding agreement with Nikon-Italia. The project involved the preparation, organisation and monitoring of the Nikon photography competition ( press conference) — where 27 European Nikon photographers had the opportunity to shoot Malta from their own perspective. Divided into three groups of nine photographers, they benefited from the advice of NPS technical expert Vanda Biffani and a comprehensive briefing on the three inspiring themes, namely: Fiaba (fable), Fuga (escape), Teatro (theatre). An estimated 40,000 rock the Granaries
The Isle of MTV Malta Special held on July 26, was the biggest free event witnessed on the Island. No other event past or present has ever managed to pack the Floriana Granaries so tightly! From high up, one ould only sea a veritable sea of people moving in time to the music, many singing along at the top of their lungs.More at: pr36.

MTA awards tourism-themed projects in secondary schools
The CHOICE Programme for the scholastic year 2006/07, organized by the Malta Tourism Authority’s Industry HR Development Unit, came to a close with the awarding of prizes and certificates, distributed to secondary school students who participated in the CHOICE educational programme. The awards ceremony was held at the Corinthia Palace Hotel on the 21st June.More at: pr24.
French Ordre du Mérite awarded to Dominic Micallef
Dominic Micallef, Head of the History and Culture Segment at the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA), has been made Chevalier de l’Ordre du Mérite of the French Republic. The honour was conferred on Mr Micallef by M. Jean-Marc Rives, the French Ambassador to Malta, during a ceremony held at his residence in Zebbug on Tuesday July 10, in the presence of the Minister for Tourism and Culture, Dr Francis Zammit Dimech. Bilateral relations with Tunisia strengthened
Since Sunday the MTA and the Minister for Tourism and Culture the Hon Mr Francis Zammit Dimech have been hosting a Tunisian delegation from the Ministry of Tourism led by H.E Mr Tijani Haddad. This visit was reciprocating one made by a Maltese delegation to Tunisia last January.More at: pr34.

In Guardia Re-enactment at Gozo’s Citdadel
On Saturday July 21 a special military re-enactment was held at the Citadel, Rabat, Gozo. This latest initiative by the Malta Tourism Authority was the first of a series of re-enactments that will be held in Gozo during the summer months. This was done to animate the Citadel’s historic and architectural beauty with a vibrant re-enactment that was enjoyed by tourists on tour of Gozo. More at: pr29.
St. George’s Bay achieves Blue Flag status
St. George’s Bay is located along Malta’s northeast coast within the tourist area of St. Julian’s. Today the bay is popular with tourists and locals alike, but it hasn’t always been this way. Indeed, the bay looks very different today than it did just three years ago. In 2000, the greatly eroded sandy beach provided very little space for bathers. Small pockets of sand were all that was available. There was no management of the beach and space was further restricted by vehicles driving and parking on the beach. So what’s changed?More at: pr26.

Following many months of under cover preparation, the Coronation street crew were in Malta between the 21st and 26th of June to film three episodes of the much loved British soap – Corrie.
