Mediteranean Music Academy – Malta Luanched in Rome by Muti
On July 23, Riccardo Muti launched the Mediterranean Music Academy – Malta, in Rome at a press conference attended by foreign and local press. The press conference launched the new music academy to a receptive international media.
A Seminar with Mro Muti to be held at the Mediterranean Conference Centre from August 29 and September 2 will launch the Academy. Maestro Muti will give an unprecedented all’opera (in action) performance after which the Maestro shall be available for an open discussion with attendees. The event will end with a performance of Don Pasquale by Donizetti, conducted by the Maestro himself and performed in the magnificent theatre of the Mediterranean Conference Centre. The eight-day programme will end on September 5, in the opulent St John's Co-Cathedral with Pergolesi's Stabat Mater and Porpora's Salve Regina. The venues for these performances emphasise Malta's heritage and strong cultural links with Europe to what promises to be a varied international audience.
The Mediterranean Music Academy – Malta aims to become a centre of musical excellence in the Mediterranean basin. Housed in the magnificent Naval Hospital in Bighi, overlooking the Grand Harbour and Valletta. The Academy shall place particular emphasis on Mediterranean music. Reflecting the cultural and geographical position of the Maltese Islands as a cross road between the shores of the Magreb and Southern Europe, from the Balearic to the Aegean.
The Mediterranean Music Academy is a long term project originated, and backed by the Ministry for Tourism and Culture and the MTA to promote Malta on the world map as a quality cultural destination.
