An estimated 40,000 rock the Granaries

The Isle of MTV Malta Special held on July 26, was the biggest free event witnessed on the Island. No other event past or present has ever managed to pack the Floriana Granaries so tightly! From high up, one could only see a veritable sea of people moving in time to the music, many singing along at the top of their lungs.

MTV, the organisers of the event, said it was the biggest and best Isle of MTV party they had ever seen. A comment echoed by Antonio Canto, MTV Europe vice-president who was astounded by the response. The artistes too were overwhelmed by the size and sheer energy of the audience. Both Enrique Iglesias the world famous heartthrob and Akon expressing their desire to visit the Islands again.

The Isle of MTV Malta Special was sponsored by the Maltese Government, organised under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism and Culture and the MTA. This party is just a small part of a pervasive, pan-European publicity campaign where millions of viewers are expected to be exposed to the Isle of MTV Malta Special.

In September, the MTA has planned an advertising campaign promoting the Maltese Islands, airing on all MTV pan-European feeds. Viewers will see Malta as the hip place to visit, a mecca for young people – the island where it is all happening.
