Coronation Street—Gozo filmed episodes screened on ITV
Following many months of under cover preparation, the Coronation street crew were in Malta between the 21st and 26th of June to film three episodes of the much loved British soap – Corrie. The three episodes were entirely re-written especially to be based in Malta and Gozo. These episodes will be aired on July 27, 28 and 29 on the UK’s ITV channel.
Filming took place entirely in Gozo and shooting took place at some of the most scenic places like Ramla Bay, Victoria and Dwejra.
Besides the direct promotion this will be giving the island of Gozo, the ripple effect of the filming will be carried in other media such as magazines like – Woman’s Own , Woman, Soap Life, All about Soap, OK, Inside Soap TV Choice, TV Quick TV Times etc… Apart from this, it will be prominently featured in Granada’s own ITV Good Morning Show, and The Making of, both programs have high viewer numbers.
Coronation Street, the longest running and most successful British soap opera, was first transmitted on ITV on Friday 9 December 1960. Made by Granada Television, the Manchester based commercial company, Corrie or the Street, as it is affectionately known, has been at the top of the UK ratings for over forty years.
A recent poll put Coronation Street in first place, in the top ten of the most watched TV programs in the UK With 10.54 million viewers calling it popular might be an understatement. Corrie is not only well known in the U.K. but is also widely watched in other countries including Canada.
Its longevity and success are testament to the firm place it holds in the hearts of the British public.
Coronation Street was brought to Malta on the initiative of the Malta Tourism Authority, Air Malta and Winston Azzopardi.
